Kitty

Miami-Dade Animal Services is now offering free neutering/spaying for cats. This is a fantastic program that will hopefully help control the overpopulation of cats in Miami-Dade County. It is available every Thursday at the Miami Dade Animal Shelter located 7401 NW 74th Street, Miami, FL 33166.

Requirements: Proof of current rabies vaccination for cats over 4 months of age.  Rabies vaccine can be obtained at Animal Services for $10 (or $3 for qualified low income).  Up to 4 cats per household; 2 months and older. Cats must be in separate carriers.  No food or water after 9:00 p.m. the night before.   No appointment necessary.  Veterinarian may decline surgery due to health reasons.  Feral cats will be ear tipped. Miami-Dade residents only.

Kelly & Penelope

Kelly and Penelope

Kelly and Penelop 2

Kelly and Penelope are on our weekly service route and these lovely ladies never fail to entertain us! Kelly is the big golden beauty who is always filled with love and cuddles, while her smaller, wilder counterpart is always out adventuring. You can find Pene in her own little version of “Indiana Jones” running through the yard, hiding and stalking her prey… tiny mangos. While Kelly is busy making sure she gets a good helping of petting and love from us. Although these two are ying and yang they complement eachother wonderfully and always leave us smiling.

Blanche Dog Doody Park

The days of quality free poopy pick-up bags at Blanche Dog Park are over. If you’ve visited the park in the past few days you may have noticed the lack of poopy pick-up bags and the excess of dog poop on the ground. Apparently the city is changing the bags they use at the park from the nice, thick bags that can be used for doodies of all sizes to smaller, thinner less costly bags. Unfortunately when the city worker came to refill dispensers earlier today he realized that the new bags do not fit the dispensers so it looks like there won’t be any bags there until thats sorted out. So if you are planning a trip out to Blanche dog park remember to B.Y.O.P.B.

2009 Bark at the Park

Bark at the Park

For anyone that has seen “Marley & Me” you’ll recall the “Bark at the Park” scene with Marley and Owen Wilson. Well the real event is a little more than a week away! Take your pooch out to the ball game and help support you local humane society.

Bring your dog to watch the Florida Marlins battle the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday, April 24 at 7:10pm at Dolphin Stadium. Tickets are only $12 for adults, $6 for kids and $6 for dogs. Dog owners must carry proof of the rabies vaccination with them to the game. Please download and sign the Waiver document and bring with you to the game. Proceeds from all dog tickets will benefit the Humane Society of Greater Miami.

Anyone who purchases at least one dog ticket before April 23 will receive a free t-shirt at the game (while supplies last)! You don’t have to have a dog to purchase a dog ticket – remember all proceeds of dog tickets goes toward the care of all the animals sheltered each day at the Humane Society of Greater Miami.

Day-of-game sales for Bark at the Park will take place at Gate B beginning at 5pm and concluding in the second inning of the game. Fans and their dogs should enter Dolphin Stadium through Gate B, with disabled fans and their dogs using the Gate G entrance starting at 4:30pm. Seating will be general admission in the upper deck sections 401 – 404. Doggie pools, water dishes and a dog-walking area will be available throughout the game. Group tickets are also available by calling 305-626-SAVE.
