What is pet sitting?

Pet sitting is a great alternative to boarding your pet. When pet owners first start making travels plans they quickly realize that they need to come up with a suitable solution to what they can do with their pets. Below is a list of why pet sitting is the better alternative to boarding.

  • Some pet(s) don’t eat while being boarded.
  • When you board your pet(s) there is usually a large amount of pets being cared for by a small staff.
  • Your pet(s) are generally caged most of the time.
  • Boarding can cost upward of $60.00 a day, pet sitting can be more affordable depending on your pets needs.
  • Your pet(s) will be more relaxed and less anxious in their natural environment, around their scents and toys.
  • Your pet(s) will be cared for on an individual basis and a plan is created to suit their particular needs.

Your pet sitter will visit your pets once or several times a day and try to keep to their normal schedule. Whether your pet is crated or allowed to roam free you can go on vacation and know that your pet is in a happy, healthy environment and will be individually cared for.

Preparing for your Pet Sitter 101 for Dogs

Many clients ask what they can do to prepare their home and pet for a pet sitter. Here are a few things we recommend you do.

  • Leave a list with your petsitter of important things to remember. Ex. What doors need to remain shut if the dog is aloud to roam free. Things that need to be kept out of reach like rugs, coasters, etc. Lights you’d like to keep on, favorite toys and snacks. Your home’s particular quirks like locks that may jam, gate codes that don’t always work etc.
  • Anything that should not be chewed or played with should be put away and out of sight. You know your dog best and you know what they like to toy with when you are not around.
  • Remember to take your petsitters information with you so you can call in case your travel plans get extended.
  • Leave only a few toys out for your pup and put the rest away. Let your petsitter know where the rest of the toys are so that he/she may rotate the toys on visits so your dog does not get bored of the same toys.
  • If you will be crating your dog make sure the crate is the appropriate size for your dog since he/she will be in there most of the day. The crate should be big enough for your dog to turn around, stretch, and get comfortable, but not so big that he looks lost inside. Also, leave 1 or 2 toys in there with them. If you have a puppy remove all bedding from the crate since puppies are not fully potty trained having the soft cushion promotes them going in their crate.
  • Advise your petsitter of any quirks or habits your dogs may have. Dogs like to keep to a routine so work with your petsitter to set up a schedule that is tailored to your pooch.

Humane Society PetNet Cabana One Event

I’m a little late posting this but since I have my new blog up I am going a little blog crazy :)

As some of you may know we were out at the PetNet Cabana One event helping raise money for the Humane Society of Miami. We had a great time playing with pooches and soaking up the sun on the top floor of the Mayfair poolside. There will hopefully be a repeat of this event soon! I will definitely keep you posted.
Here is a picture of Kris, Piper and I at the event:

Thank you, WordPress

So for a while we have wanted to add a blog to our site. However, it was somewhat cumbersome to add a blog to our already existing site. For a while it seemed the only option we had was to scrap our wonderful website and start anew with a website that was running 100% on wordpress. However, with a little bit of googling and a lot of hours I was able to embed the fantastic blogging software ‘WordPress’ into our existing site. So… Thank you, WordPress!

Now with the help of WordPress we hope to bring you fantastic content of plenty of pet related events in Miami, pet tips, etc.

We hope you’ll enjoy this new addition to our website as much as we do!
